The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas

by Ursula Le Guin

This is a short story about a coastal town called Omelas. It is a town of joyous splendor where you can find almost anything you could ever want. The price paid is one paid by the collective of Omelas. Where each has to decide for themselves if it is too high to pay, these are the ones who walk away from omelas.

My Thoughts

Spoilers... duh...

I wonder how many people can't handle the price they pay but don't leave. That just kinda decay under the weight that they can't hold up and crumble, turning to drug use not out of want of a good time, but out of a need for an escape. The ones that have convinced themselves that its so good here that they can't go back into the "real" world with the misery of common people.
